The 2012 Suzuki Boulevard M109R 1800. It’s a technological terror with race driven engineering tricks up its cylinders, it looks like a Xenomorph from the Alien franchise ala H. R. Giger, and it produces more ponies than a breeding farm in Kentucky. 127 ponies to be exact, slung out of 109 cubic inches of liquid-cooled, Suzuki-Composite-Electrochemical-Material-lined cylinders. With all that power, aggressive styling, and race-proven build characteristics, the Boulevard M109R – the “M” stands for “muscle” – truly lives in a class of its own.

Despite its initial appearance, Suzuki has the M109R listed amongst its touring class of large displacement motorcycles and due in part to its 46mm inverted fork tubes, high-tensile double cradle steel frame, aluminum swingarm, and progressive adjustable rear mono-shock, it just may be more tourer than cruiser. The 1783cc 54-degree v-twin cranks out an enormous 127 horsepower and 117 lb-ft of torque. That’s 39 more horse than the Honda VTX 1800, 37 more than the Yamaha Stratoliner, and 32 horse more than the Harley-Davidson Twin Cam 1800. The pistons are 112mm forged aluminum-alloy featuring race-proven design to reduce friction and internal mass, with short skirts, and cut away sides riding on chrome-molly steel connecting rods. Air and fuel are managed by a 32-bit ECM through Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve system and 56mm throttle bodies. While it’s no light-weight at 746lbs, all that mass comes to a quick and steady stop thanks to dual twin-piston calipers and drilled rotors in the front, and a single dual-piston caliper in the rear, also sporting a factory drilled disc.

This particular bike has no shortage of custom accessories:

  • Metzeler 280/35 18 on a custom 10″ rear wheel and matching 160/35 on the front.
  • Freedom Performance 2-in-1 exhaust system
  • Customized highway crash bars imported from Germany by H&B Cycles.
  • XTRE PowerBox
  • Kuryakyn fish footpegs
  • LED turn signals.
